February Fun

Good Morning Families,
Thank you to the Gahagan/Greevenow, Hornung, and Friedrich/Morcado family for supplying our classroom with tissues! The kids do appreciate it.

Thank you to all the families who came to last weeks' Technology Based, Bring Your Family to School Day. We were so thrilled to see our students put to use programs that we use everyday.

Read to Succeed sheets are due February 24! If they are handed in late they may not be able to be accepted.

In regards to Valentines Day, we will have a small celebration which will focus on friendship. We have told students that they are welcome to bring in treats or cards, however they must bring in enough for every student in the class (53 students in Team Soar) or they will not be allowed to hand their items out. As this is to celebrate friendship, leaving someone out will lead to hurt feelings for a fun event. If students choose to bring in something,  they should only sign their name on the card rather than addressing cards to students; it will become tedious to sort out over 50 cards for each student. Lastly, students may bring in a decorated bag or box to put their items in, if students do not bring in a bag or box, they will be provided with a brown paper lunch bag.

Bring Your Family to School

Today is the day! We are very excited for the annual BRING YOUR FAMILY TO SCHOOL breakfast and morning. Students are prepared to show you just how tech savvy they are! We hope to see you soon.

Please note the Read to Succed forms are due by February 24, if they are turned in late we may not be able to honor them.

Sniff sniff

Good Afternoon!
As many of you know it is still cold and flu season, and well that keeps the facial tissue companies in business. If anyone is willing to donate tissues for the classroom it would be greatly appreciated as we are down to our last few boxes. Thanks!

We're Half Way There

We can only hope that some of you started to sing that along with us! All song lyrics aside, we had a special treat today; Angie a veteran Team Soar member, decided to celebrate her July birthday with us in a very unique way. What was Angie's treat of choice you ask; why, her favorite food of course...SUSHI! Angie and her family, very generously, made us not only sushi (no fish, just veggies!) but also treat sushi. Almost everyone in Team Soar tried the delicious healthy veggie sushi; as a result, we have many new sushi lovers in our classroom! Thank you to Angie and her family for introducing so many students, and teachers, to something new on a Monday morning.

If you have not sent back the envelope for report cards, please sign the line marked, "Quarter Two" and take out the report card before your child takes the envelope back to school with them tomorrow!

Well, going back to our title, we are half way through the school year already! It's hard to believe, however we are! Our focus in math has switched gears to measurement and data; we will be covering topics such as identifying and measuring angles, being able to read a clock and calculate elapsed time, working fluently with money, measuring using multiple different units, and reading/creating different types of graphs. Every student's literacy needs vary, however, all students should be reading for a minimum of 20 minutes a day and should be able to answer comprehension questions related to their book. In writing, we continue to write opinion pieces and are now adding in counter arguments as well as catchy endings. Inquiry this quarter will take students anywhere they want on Earth! Students were given four different topics to choose from such as weather and natural disasters and animals. From there, students will choose a subtopic, research, and then create a Keynote presentation as their final project. Ask your students what interests them!

Thank you to all families who attended open house! It was wonderful to see you all and we can't wait until our math based open house coming up at the end of quarter three! Pictures to follow soon!

Open House

Good Morning Team Soar Families,
Today is the day! Open house for Team Soar starts at 3:45pm and goes until 4:15pm, we will promptly begin our scheduled conferences after that point. Whenever there is confusion about a topic, please email or call us immediately. If a note is sent home that contradicts our blog, it trumps all, and we will update our blog as soon as possible. As a courtesy to other Team Soar Families if there is ever a time that we schedule a meeting or event that you are unable to attend please tell us immediately as you are holding open a spot for another family. We are trying to get away from cancellations and multiple emails the day of an event; we understand that things do come up however we are trying to accommodate 52 families!

We hope to see you later!

Happy New Year

WELCOME BACK TEAM SOAR FAMILIES!!!

We are so glad to be back and ready for a fresh start in this new year. Below are the usernames and passwords students need in order to use the same programs at home that we use in school. With that being said, PASS slips have been distributed and starts next week. Please take note of the times and the one session that will not be held.

This quarter for parent teacher conferences, we will be holding an open house in Team Soar focusing on literacy from 3:45pm until 4:15pm on Thursday, January 22nd. Please note that attending the open house is for families benefit, this will constitute as your conference in the lieu of you not meeting individually with a teacher. After that time, we will be having scheduled conferences for an additional hour. We will be choosing families we would like to meet with to address specific concerns for this upcoming quarter; if we do not request a conference with your family, and would like one, please let us know immediately so that we can schedule appropriately. Report cards will be sent home within the following week, again, please be advised that the reading grade reported is your child's independent level and not the level that they are instructed at when they work with a a teacher.

Remember there is no school for students on Monday, January 12 and Monday, January 19 for teacher in-service.

Winter Celebrations

Happy Holidays Team Soar Families,
Thank you to all of you who came last week to our Winter Concert. As you are aware, we have a little problem solving to do! Ms. Wall has posed the question to our students as a math computation where they are asked to come up with solutions so that everyone in our Jefferson Family has an enjoyable time at our future gatherings. This is a great topic of discussion for you and your child!

Yesterday we took our literacy MAPS test; this will be the only winter MAPS test that students will be taking. We will be sharing this information at our upcoming parent teacher conferences on January 22, as the focus for these conferences will be literacy.

We will be sending home a half sheet today about our upcoming holiday party on Friday, December 19. Please return the slip as soon as possible if you choose to participate.

Next week Tuesday through Thursday (Thursday after school only), students will have the opportunity to shop at a PTA sponsored holiday shoppe. This shop allows students to purchase Christmas items for family members. Slips have been sent home regarding this holiday event.
