Our focus in math is still on measurement and data, however we are starting to look at measuring length, width, capacity, converting different measurement units, as well as determining area and perimeter.
In writing, we are looking at students strengths and weaknesses and placing them into focus groups to target skills they could use extra support in. Groups are divided into categories such as writing conventions, lead, endings, transitions, craft, and elaboration.
Another piece of information that seems insignificant but your child will know what it is for!

Anti-Bullying Month
February is Anti-Bullying Month. In honor of this month, we at Jefferson participated in many activities to stomp out bullying; one of which you already know is to wear pink on Fridays. The second, is to create a class door that displays an anti-bullying theme. Our theme this year was thought up by Natalie Woppert. When the students were asked what a bully does to you, she very eloquently said that they, "break your heart." We ran with that theme and not only made a classroom door to represent that, but we also recorded a little song, thank you Elton John and Kiki Dee! Below are the students singing their anti-bullying song. The door pictures will be up soon!

This information may seem random, however, your child will know what it is for!

February Fun
Good Morning Families,
Thank you to the Gahagan/Greevenow, Hornung, and Friedrich/Morcado family for supplying our classroom with tissues! The kids do appreciate it.
Thank you to all the families who came to last weeks' Technology Based, Bring Your Family to School Day. We were so thrilled to see our students put to use programs that we use everyday.
Read to Succeed sheets are due February 24! If they are handed in late they may not be able to be accepted.
In regards to Valentines Day, we will have a small celebration which will focus on friendship. We have told students that they are welcome to bring in treats or cards, however they must bring in enough for every student in the class (53 students in Team Soar) or they will not be allowed to hand their items out. As this is to celebrate friendship, leaving someone out will lead to hurt feelings for a fun event. If students choose to bring in something, they should only sign their name on the card rather than addressing cards to students; it will become tedious to sort out over 50 cards for each student. Lastly, students may bring in a decorated bag or box to put their items in, if students do not bring in a bag or box, they will be provided with a brown paper lunch bag.
